Hello people.
This is my first ever post on anything anywhere, so please forgive any inane ramblings.
I am planning on setting up on my own as a small business, I have a few contacts and leads so I can continue in the commercial/light industrial side of the industry that i have been in for the past 30 yrs, I have sorted the cash/business side out (almost) with an accountant, but what I would dearly like you advice on is
what is the best car derived van to get at about £3000 to £4000
what tester should I invest in, I had a metrel for a while but I dont rate it.
nic, nappit or elecsa ?
what pifalls to avoid ?
any advice on estimating ?
any advice at all?
I would appreciate any input you can give me folks.
Many thanks
Rick

Looks like you have put them off a bit with all those questions at once;) My advice would be to have a trawl through this forum and you will find answers to most of your questions have been covered already. I keep finding stuff I never even thought to ask!

Hi mate i too am in the process of registering and setting up self employed after checking and asking loads on the forum
I am choosing to go with Elecsa from what i have been told they are more helpful to you £370 + vat if ya register on line check there site out
I have a megger 1552 multifunction and prefer it to the fluke multifunction i used at college but i suppose a lot of its preference
as for van car derived have a look at renault kangoo, citroen berlingo, ford transit connect look for a ex gas or telecom as some of these have racking mate for your tools seen quite a few for £3000 - 4000
as for estimating not so sure myself but i am sure others will there are lots of posts coverig all the subjects use the search bar at the top of the page good luck to you in your new venture

I would go with niceic i have been with both them and elecsa, elecsa are better and nicer on your wallet but niceic has gained me lots of work because of the name.
Van i would get a vivaro for 4000 grand small vans are a nightmare especially if your doing commercial and industrial.
Be carefull of large companies holding back money, get a good wholesalers and hammer them on prices.
Build a good reputation by going out of your way to help ppl and be prepared to work your --- off.
Ppl moan that there isnt enough work out there, there is loads of work but ppl arent prepared to work hard enough or travel.

I have been lucky and by working hard and going out of my way to help clients i now have a good client base and some very good contracts. I have been self employed for just over two years now and now have sparks working for me.

both napit and elecsa are very easy ging and helpfull however it dont matter who you join they all just want your cash.

oh and pay the extra and get the megger 52/53 far superior, although there is a offer on the fluke with a free laptop at minute (they got to do something to try and sell them)

citroen berlingo multispace drops flat for van or seats up for car excellent for work/family
