I recently upgraded my corsa d 2008 speakers, they were working fine and then out of nowhere the bass hits had a horrible squealing noise coming out of both speakers, it couldn’t play any lows. Shortly after the sound stops coming out all together, the stereo stays on but no sound whatsoever. I checked all the stereo fuses and they are fine, I checked the connector to the back of the stereo and all wires look in place. Could this be an issue with the head unit or is it more likely to be an issue with connection from head unit to speaker?
Cheers.

TL;DR
Upgraded speakers in Corsa, worked fine, then bass becomes horrible squeal, then stops making sound. Stereo on but no sound, fuses/wires going into stereo are fine. Could it be head unit?
Check the resistance of the speakers. Check this at the wires where they connect to the head unit. Should be around 4 ohms per speaker.

Try the head unit with some different speakers. Don't use expensive ones in case there is a fault with the head unit and it damages them.

Well before this happened I ordered a new head unit which I will fit tomorrow. I will replace the head unit first and see if that works. If not I’ll check speaker wires?

It's probably the head unit that is faulty if nothing else changed. If you have a multimeter it would still be worth making sure there are no shorts on the speaker cables though.

No, the head unit keeps overloading and coming back on later. I’m taking it to an electrician and he will have a look, he said he’s never heard of a situation like this before

Did you try another head unit or different speakers? Any resistance measurements?

Tried different head unit, same issue. Didn’t try different speakers and don’t have a multimeter, hence why I’ve booked it in

If your existing speakers or cables are shorted, you may have blown another head unit though.
