When installing storage heaters does there need to be a separate "off peak" circuit and meter installed or is it all off the same meter and CU with the elec company just having multiple tarrifs off the same meter.

ie do I need a separate "off peak" CU and tails installed or is it just a separate way in the existing CU (meaning does the elec supplier fit 2 separate meters and time switch or do they just fit a single dual rate meter these days)?

They fit a dual rate meter now but still use a separate consumer unit (obviously). However, if only peak meter is installed and you wanted a few new s/heaters (not too many), just install them on peak CU and put time clock next to each switched fused spur ( N.B this is not the most practical way but has the same effect).

You can also get two tier consumer units very neat for putting 'peak' and 'off peak' in same cu they also allow din rail mounted timers contactors etc for an unlimited adaption of circuit control good for dual tariff meter with a pro' finish :)

is it a new installation

Current install where he wants storage heaters installed (no gas to property and currently only flat panel instant heaters).

Dont know more as havent seen the place yet.

I like the 2 tier CU idea but think it may be more practicle to go with a sep CU and din mounted timer so as to not interfeer with the rest of the install. Will know more when see the job.
