i am removing my storage heaters as they dont work and i dont like them i know how to get them off and taking apart. what i would like to know is when i have opened the switch covers and removed the ataching wire what do i need to cover the wire that comes out the wall i am leaving the wire in the wall. how do i make the wires safe and cover the hole. i have turned the fuse box off to them.

What I would do, is get yourself a suitable connector block, put all the wires in separate connectors, keeping the same coloured wires together, (keeps the circuit/ring main connected, wrap the connector block in insulating tape, and then seal the box with a blanking plate. Socket Blanking Plate | eBay.
But wait for an expert to reply.

Just disconnect the flexes going to the heaters at the wall switches and leave the wall switches in place, that way you do not need to mess with the fixed wiring at all.

Some old storage heaters have asbestos in.

Best way is to leave the switches on the wall as wirepuller has suggested. It is possible to turn them into sockets at a later date.

if I do as u say can I put blanking plates on insted of keeping the swich.i know I need to wrap the ends of the wires with elecky tape.can I just tuck them behind a blanking plate.the fuse on the main box is off and will stay off

Just taping the ends is bad. Use official termination like connector blocks. You saying it will never be turned on is not right.

hi kate where will I get connecter blocks will I get them from screw fix. im hoping its somthing we can do ourselfs to save money.

hi kate thanks will get them. to make sure i got this i put the 3 diff wires in one each then i can put the blanking plate on top is that right.

thanks so much u made the answer so clear, I sort of knew what I need but just wanted clarifacation.i feel confident we can under take this task ourselfs.
