Strange guidance on earthing a new fridge

Just bought a new fridge, it advises in the instruction book if using an unearthed socket to use a steel plate burried 25cm!!

An update, The electrical safety council have taken up the issue with Daewoo and they will be issueing better instructions for the UK market in future.

Nice to hear you were proactive about it and got some results. It amazes me that such high esteem is placed on manufacturers instructions to the point where you're legally liable if you don't follow them yet there's no oversight into the absolute rubbish literature they often distribute with their appliances and goods. It's kinda amusing and worrying that if by some chance the customer plugs the fridge into a socket with no earth then as a professional that was asked to assist by the customer you'd be in the dock to explain why you didn't jack-hammer a hole in their kitchen floor slab and bury a steel plate if something went wrong.
