A few minutes ago, I looked at my incoming electricity meter (Landis & Gyr E110) and to my surprise, it was displaying "Red".

Now displaying "Red" isn't entriely unusual, but at the time I was consuming well in excess of 100W and probably closer to 200W of power - and my inverter was telling me that power being generated was about 17W, which went as high as 41W a few minutes later and has since crept up to 66W as the dark rainclouds pass.

So how can my electricity meter be showing "Red" when I'm pretty certain that I'm importing at least 100W of power?

Cheers,
F

I believe the display toggles between "red" and the actual consumption figure permanently once the meter has sensed Reverse Energy Direction. This is done to indicate someone possibly tampering with the wiring. Think about it - not much point in having the "red" flag only set when reverse flow was actually happening else you could just remove the tampering once a year when the meter reader came round and no-one would be the wiser.

rEd will show once the reverse electric is deteched . so once it displays it wil stay there even if your paying for the electric.

i think it so meter readers can tell if you fiddled your meter.
