Hi all,
Found some strange cable in my house when re-wiring it, the house is a prc built in 1952, just wondered if anyone had seen it before it has tinned copper braiding, pvc??? insulation and stranded cores, most cores are in weird and wonderful colours, the JB used is very nice, paxolin shrouded connectors, copper strap braid clamps etc, and the end of every braod appears to have been heat-shrinked neatly, the box is rubberised and has a security type lid screw,

One theory is that it was left over aircraft cable from the local aircraft factory, this seems a fairly logical explanation, still in service until 98, and still servicable now so has certainly stood the test of time better then most VIR.

Any thoughts?

i have. years ago my dad was an airframes fitter on lancasters. our shed was wired in that. think OP is correct in that it was nicked from aircraft factory.

Aye, live very near to an aircraft factory which in the war made spifires, so was probably used up after the war in the 'temporary' housing which is still standing, I meggered a length of it probably 20m, went straight to 999, the insulation is still as flexible as the day it was put in, wouldn't know what to put in the 'type of cable' coloumb on PIR mind!
