Replacing a broken kitchen socket for customer, during isolation procedure noticed was only gettin just over 100 v across live and neutral, when i went across live to earth it was fine at 240v. Just wonderin if anyone had any ideas as it got me thinkin
cheers

hi paul
i would check for bad connection carry out a continuity check on the neutral and carry out the same test on the live they should be the same or there abouts, also worth doing a insulation resistance test. hope this helps

how do you do a continuity test on neutral and what kind of readings should i expect??Cheers

You can use a wander lead method on radial circuit.

1. Null your meter to wander lead.
2. Isolate circuit to be tested.
3. Attach wander lead to N at CU.
4. Measure continuity between wander lead and furthest N on circuit.
5. Readings will vary depending on cable size and length. ie 10M 2.5mm is approx 0.07 ohms.

Or end to end rn method for ring circuit.

1. Isolated circuit to be tested
2. Disconnect N's from CU.
3. Null meter.
4. Measure continuity between N's at CU.
5. Again results will depend on cable size and length.
