I have a street light circuit on land I rent out. I need to replace 2 of the bulbs.
1 of them is an old Philips 55W SOX Plus, the other is a Heathfield 30W E27 LED.

I'm not sure if any electrical work was previously carried out to enable the Heathfield LED to work.
Can I just replace the old SOX bulb with a new Heathfield (Or any other LED bulb that fits?) Or does something need changed within the light fitting?

Philips offer LED replacements for the SOX style here:
However, looking at the video for installing it seems you need to bypass the original ballast system, i.e. the new LED lamp is connected directly to the AC supply and not via the system needed to start and current-limit the discharge lamp style.

So it is not a simple swap, but once modified it is for future replacement.

I don't know about the Heathfield lamp, it might be a simple holder that only ever took filament / CFL lamps, in which case any suitably sized LED replacement should be fine. If it was a discharge lamp in the past I expect it has been modified to bypass the ballast system, but if you don't know it would be worth getting it checked.

All it needs is the existing lampholder replacing with a suitable new E27 lamp holder connected directly to the incoming cable, replacing/ bypassing the existing discharge gear.
Advise someone with experience, as previously explained.
