I am assessing a job in the morning for new works in a pre-fabricated garage. As most of you will be aware these buildings are a nightmare to work on at the best of times. I will be quoting for lighting and small power but have been led to believe that the ceiling is supported by a light steel frame work ( 50mm angle bar ) and I am in 2 minds whether this is classed a structural steel and if it requires an earth running to it from the MET. This would give a 2nd issue of parallel earth paths as the garage supply is only going to be 4.0mm 20 amp with only a 1.5mm cpc which I believe is too small csa to earth the structural steel (if required). Any suggestions guys?

1. You only have to bond structural steel if it is exposed.

2. If it is and requires main bond then you should make your installation TT install an electrode and MET and bond from there.
