Now I know i should know the answer to this but I can't find any clarification anywhere.

Situation is as follows

Wylex 8way rewireable in house
Metal Wylex 4way in garage.
Connected with SWA.

Customer wishes to have exterior light and socket on garage.

Can this be done by just replacing the garage unit to 17th unit or do I need to go the whole hog and do the main board too?

My instincts tell me the whole lot and I have advised the customer accordingly for safety reasons more than anything. But wanted to find some way of backing this up or justifying it etc other then the usual Regs etc.

Stupid question but my brains letting me down today( forgot flowers for the missus too! Lol)

the work you do must be to 17th ED.and will comply by just diong your work to regs. you could even leave the old board in the garage and feed the socket with a RCD FCU and the light from the old board ( providing none of the cable is buried in walls < 50mm deep). the house installation is a separate issue and it is the customer's choice if he wants to upgrade it. you can only advise.
