Sub contracting rates

Hi, it's been a while since I've had to do some sub contracting work and am a bit lost in what I should be charging.

I am based in Hertfordshire with work being offered to me all over Hertfordshire/London.

I am fully qualified, have a van with full tools etc.

I've been doing electrical work for 13 years.

I do have my own business (NICEIC approved) with my own work but my last company have grown and need 'decent reliable' electricians. Hence why they're asking me to join them.

I was hoping for £180 a day plus travel expenses (Within reason). Whats it like out there?

Any less than that and id probably benefit just doing my own stuff (not very constant at the moment).

Any thoughts?

New build/commercial work. My next job if I choose to take it on is a £5,000,000 (project) job in Hertfordshire.

All top end electrical work.

If your running the electrical side on a £5,000,000 project I think you should be asking for more than £180 a day IMO Plus it could work to your advantage that they are chasing you.

Ahh I see. Im happy with £180 per day. I know an electrical/air con company who charge their electricians out at £250 per day. Im certain £180 is reasonable haha

I would go with £250 a day in your shoes , look at it if you were doing you're own work with you're own clients and compare that ....

If your happy at £180 and get £180, what's the issue?

Its very dependant on your area, there's not a hope in hell you'd get £180 a day subbie rate here even with own tools and van, but real life expenses are a lot less here as well

I would recommend that you draw up a contract first.
Mainly just to cover your --- concerning your insurances, who is liable for what and if your cover is enough
