Sub-sea Cable

Hey guys, here's a cutting of a sub sea cable i made for the office.
The three main copper cables are the power cores and there are two smaller power cables as well if you look close.
My here is also a small tube that would house Fibre optic.
the armouring around the outside is stainless steel rods, about the size of a pencil each.
between the armouring and the cable it is impregnated with bitchamen. This cutting is around 12cm tall, and about 10cm in diameter and weights about 1.5kg. On the outside, there is a yellow and black string overlay which is why the jubilee clip is on to stop it unraveling.

What voltage, CSA and insulation type is it?
It looks like MV and possibly foil screened? I can’t quite make it out. It would make sense for it to be.
A screened MV cable each core is separately screened to stop stress points within the cable. Stress at MV can cause insulation failure it also allows the core insulation to be thinner.

These two drawings show how stress interacts between the cores and earth. The foil screen evens out the stress around each core. I’ve shown PILC but the principal is still the same for modern cable.

One of my interests is the development of cable over the years. There’s been some ingenious types used, some are still in use today. If anyone has shots of different cable types I’d be very interested to see them.

This is a cutting of the type of cable that is used to connect tidal and wave machines.
not sure of the exact specs Tony, I'll get a photo with a tape measure too!
I think the csa of the main conductors are 300mm2. and copper foil screened as you thought.
The smaller cores are used as auxicarly power Penny, so when the big conductors are isolated, the machines can still get power for their sensors etc.
