Got a job to do next week, couple have bought a load of chrome accessories and just want all the old ones swapping over. Called in this morning to have a chat with them and a brew (I know them). Had a look at what they've bought. The brand is 'Home Decor'. They say they bought them from Home Bargains! The quality isn't brilliant, but the light switches concerned me the most. When you operate the switch, the L1 and L2 terminals move up and down quite significantly. I think over time, the wires connected to them could easily work loose. Thoughts???

I would raise my concerns with the customer in a letter before carrying out any works to cover yourself. May even be worth doing a quick search on the internet to find out if there are any inherent faults with the products they have brought.

In the end I persuaded the customer to return them all and go with something of a bit better quality. It's sad what's happened to some of my old favourites, I had a massive stockpile of old Contactum accessories, now depleted, they were great quality, but the new stuff you can buy today is pants in comparison.

Last bunch of Hamilton accessories I had were very reasonably priced and good quality, have usable length screws included as well. Was issued some B&Q ones once and the screws were too tiny to use and had to use regular ones that didn't quite match

But there is meeting a standard and exceeding a standard. A product is only ever marked that it met the standard. So there will be some really naff accessories that just meet the standard and some very good accessories that far exceed the standards.
The trick is getting good reliable accessories that are at a good price.

Put it whatever way you want too, if an accessory meets the relevant BS standard, it can't be called Sub-Standard!!

I do know what you mean though, and agree with your other comments here.... lol!!

Hamilton metal accessories are ok if you`re not putting sockets and spurs next to each other on a dual box- believe it or not they`re different sizes!! about 2-3mm difference in height
