hi
As present it’s myself and an a apprentice, but Work coming in has taken to a new level,so I need to take on a subby just to try and keep clients happy, what should I pay the subby per day? I’ll be providing all materials and organising everything, and test afterwards so I can certify the job all the subby will have to do is turn and do the Work. I would really appreciate any help.

subbing rate around here is £20 -£25/hour or £160 - £200/day, maybe more in the affluent south. might need to add extra for travelling time and expense on top.

Hi Telectrix
Where about in the country are you, we’re not far from guildford, Round here I think most people are with in that price range but wasn’t sure if it would be abit less as everything else was sorted

You should test the market .....but all I would say is all the decent sparks around me are rather busy ...

Im back to subbing next month own van, tools and test kit, i work for a small firm who cover commercial/industrial. Im usually on my own sorting out other people mess, testing and fault finding. I have an agreed rate of £20ph, if im just doing install work for them its less £18ph. It sounds like you're planning on spoon feeding them so i guess around £16-19 would be reasonable, hope you find someone decent.

I'm not to far from Guilford. (Further south) In our area most subbies are on about £150 per day or £18ph plus milleage.

I suppose it all depends on what work your doing.

Thanks for all your help, to be honest I’m a little bit south of guildford on the Surrey, north hants border, and sparks generally range between £150 - £200 but like you said I am spoon feeding, so im a bit unsure and I like to test afterwards as I’ve got to sign it off, we’ve got abit of everything Work wise mostly domestic but the a few commercial and industrial jobs as well, the trouble is finding someone good who isn’t busy

Agree, there are not a lot of good subbies out there, who can actually trust, doing the work,& complete what you want done.

20 years ago I was on £10 @ hour & 50 pence a mile.
I know most don’t get paid mileage,no travelling time.
Realistically you need @ least £150 a day & mileage.

It’s crazy,I’m on the books now,6 years in waiting for a rise in pay,it’s all down to the economic, brexit climate,No....I want a rise, everything else is more expensive, just pay me more please.

Make sure it's a real spark. So many pikey outfits are using mates and improvers to complete jobs by hitting up nasty evil vile employment agencies, . I've been on 3 recent, reasonably sized commercial projects. On 2 of those projects, an un-qualified apprentice was running 2 of the jobs and a newly qualified fire alarm fitter was running a larger commercial electrical install. Its disgusting. I've grassed up all the firm's to their end clients and warned them about being under insured post grenfell. I'm gonna clean up this industry.
