Hi all. Got roped into looking at a friends sunbed which is blowing the plug fuse after 10 mins or so. The sunbed is Class 2 and rated at 2.2kW.
In use it draws about 4kW so the 13A fuse doesn't last too long. It contains 10 100W tubes each with a ballast & starter, and three small fans. The fans draw about 80 W. I believe the problem is the lack of power factor correction as there are four 50 uF caps which I have tested ok but are not in circuit as the thermistors linking them are burnt out. They are a flat disk about 15mm dia. with two leads and have NTC 22 0043 written on them. Does anyone know an equivalent, best I can do is that they are 22 ohm types.

Or am I on the wrong track?

I can't identify this thermistor from the info given in my reference/data books. A close-up photo of a thermistor might help track down this device. What I can tell you is it's markings don't indicate that it's a 22 ohms device.

Hi MarkieSparkie
After posting this re-read it and thought no-one would reply - too obscure but thanks, here's a piccy..

What might be the consequence of bypassing it entirely - it seems likely to just limit the in-rush on the caps?

Cheers
