Do you have to have a sunny webox to be able to access the sunny portal? I have not done it before and am trying to work it all out so i can set it up.

Just installed a SB3600TL an want to be able to get the customer to view performance on the portal.

Also once set up am i able to also log on and view the performanced via the internet? does it back up results via wireless interent?

You do need a Sunny Webbox to use Sunny Portal

a) in order to create an account and register the plant you need to do this in the Webbox settings (under Sunny Portal (Communication products) )
b) you need the Sunny Webbox to transmit the generation data etc. to Sunny Portal (you can change the frequency of updates from every 15 minutes, hourly or daily).

As moggy1968 indicates you need to configure bluetooth on the inverter (set a Net ID other than 0) and in the case of some inverters install a bluetooth piggy back card, and set the same Net ID on the back of the Sunny Webbox.

You'll also need a spare ethernet port on the customer's network router to plug it into.

There are other devices which do similar things such as Solar Log (which comes in a wifi version if your customer has a wifi but no spare ethernet port) but these are pretty much the same price (or more expensive) than the Webbox.

Cheers guys,

Yeah it already has bluetooth as standard.
So the webbox sits by the router, and transmits the data from the bluetooth inverter, so you obviously get to set up the webbox online which is where you get the login details for the portal.

Thanks
£300 odd though so not cheap!

When you set up the web box to send data to Sunny Portal, you enter a plant name and an e-mail address. It then registers online with Sunny Portal and sends the login details to the e-mail address you specified (actually the logon name *is* the e-mail address so you get e-mailed the password).

The Webbox has a web interface similar to Sunny Explorer (again with User and Installer logins).

It can also send data to an ftp server you specify, and allows querying via RPC JSON (for the computer geeks amongst you).

Cheers Mdovey, I haven't installed a webox but its good to know how easy it is to install. The price really is the turn off, if it was £100 I could work it into my pricing. I would love to have all my customers live data, but I guess unless they sign up to a service agreement you might spend too much time monitoring without £$£$.

I'm currently building a new website to monitor PV and calculate FIT payments etc (Solar Stats) - specifically for the SMA range of inverters at the moment.

Just about to build an iphone/android application to sync the data on the inverter with the website so you can see your performance in near-real time. email me if you're interested in trying it out.
