supply board cable

dooo

hi i am currently wiring my house and moving my fuse board. i was concerned with volt drop on the cable from my meter and my consumer unit so i decided to do the cable sizing sum my the volt drop was fine however my supply board fuse is 80amps which means it requires a 25mm csa cable no matter what distance it is from my consumer unit so how come every house is wired with a 16mm csa cable. discrimination? i have a electric cooker and triton t90 should i install a static transfer switch so the shower cant be used when the cooker is switched on? i know this is a stupid bunch of questions cos every house is wired with a 16 square cable but according to the regs ib less than in less than iz so every house should be wired with 25mm csa cable no?

I do so hope your still in training and not out there in peoples homes undertaking electrical work!!!

Re: c.u feed cable

remember that if your tails are more than 3meters in length, you should fit a fused isolator at the origin. with 25mm tails, i see no need for any switching arrangement on the cooker and shower.

Re: c.u feed cable

Hi You certainly are new! you been reading too many books and listening to too many people! your cooker on its own radial, then shower on its own radial circuit,by radial i mean stop at the shower or cooker,

Re: c.u feed cable

Acording to the BRB, 16mm² can take 80A when clipped direct, one would assume that the rating would be higher if in free air.
How are your meter tails run?

and there was i thinking that my brains FA really was formiddable ale!
