Currently doing flats and main contractor asked if i could run in split concentric cable from communal stairwell cupboard to 7 flats. Ready for dno to connect at both ends.Cable will be going up cable tray then through wall to meter in each flat. Firstly should the DNO be doing this? Secondly does this cable fall under 522.6.5 - 522.6.8?

All meters should be downstairs in a community area with 24hr access by all tenants / owners. Sub mains to each flat. Landlords supply for corridor lighting / fire alarms.

According to whom? Tenants are not required to have access to each others meters, centralised services are classed as landlord or DNO territory because none of the equipment is the property of the tenant.

As long as each property has a metered supply there is no need to centralised metering, although personally I think it makes sense and the DNO's prefer this as it gives them the ability to read all meters and disconnect without court orders...

Basically I think this stems from DNO's can not install mains cable within the fabric of the building by today's standards. They might go 2m within the building provided ducted and encased in solid concrete. Most probably in all new builds and refurbishment. Seen many now done this way.
