Hi guys just been out to a property where the tenant was complaining of lamps failing often and 4 laptop power supplies have failed. Not had the go ahead from the landlord to inspect yet, but after plugging in the fluke supply voltage is 250v at 6pm . Any one any experience of this ?

Try monitoring it from about 3pm till about7pm that will give you a better idea of voltage fluctuations, you'll be amazed at how much it alters, tested mine the other night and had a peak of 290,but only for milliseconds.

I can take a look at one of the laptop power supplies if posted to me, and if repairable I will fix it and post it back, I will also be able to tell you what caused it to fail....free of charge of course...

Try looking at getting a Fluke voltage event recorder for your toolkit, its a plugtop data recorder that outputs to a PC/Laptop

here you go here's a Fluke plugtop one for ÂŁ60.00+vat (ÂŁ72.00), its the old model which I think they are getting rid of stock or maybe ex rental, these were in use in 1999 when I was a Student(was about ÂŁ400 back then which is ÂŁ700 in todays money lol) will still do a good enough job for day to day sparking though...
This model was manufactured up to about 2005 and sold everywhere up until about 2007 when the new version came in....the new one has a lot more features but will cost between ÂŁ400 and ÂŁ700 depending where you look to buy one...

VR101S voltage event recorder system | hire | inlec

here's the new one,the Fluke VR170:

there's a PDF manual to download on this web page as well...

Fluke VR1710 Power Quality Recorder From Test4Less

and the user manual etc:

Voltage Recorder, Voltage Recorders, Single Phase Voltage Recorder, VR1710

hope this helps...

A friend of mine was having trouble with his new solar PV kit cutting out. Monitoring his incoming supply he was getting between 245 and 275 volts from the pole-mounted transformer outside. This was causing the PV inverter to go into hibernation. He rang the supply company which was able to adjust the transformer remotely, the incomer steadied down around the 240 mark, and his PV worked as it should. He later said that his light bulbs seemed to be lasting a lot longer as well. He has since monitored his supply and every now and then the volatge starts to rise and he has another go at the supplier.

The ÂŁ60 is a weeks hire not a buy outright

The ÂŁ60 is a weeks hire not a buy outright
oh, when I looked at the website last night it didn't have that pane on the side with hire per week, it just had "buy now" then the credit card logos etc on it and the price.....maybe the website was being updated or something.....typical, had a look there and it had per week plus delivery plus scratch yer head plus VAT..... would look somewhere like the calibration centre on ebay to rent one of he new ones, I wouldn't pay that to rent one of those outdated ones when the newest version has all the bells and whistles ...
