If anyone needs to know anything about Surge Protection Devices and the Amendment 1 addition of Section 534 there is a review of a training video on my blog.
Before I did the review I knew very little about SPDs apart from they were used incase of lightning. They seem to be amazing little devices capable of switching up to 100kA to earth in around 350 micro seconds without interupting the supply! They are certainly useful to protect electronic equipment from transient overvoltages as the video demomstrates.
Does anyone have any experiences of SPDs and where they have been installed?
Now I know a bit about them I have been wondering if they are already commonplace and I maybe haven't noticed, or if there's no real demand for them or even if now they are going to be more commonly used because of the new regs? It would be interesting to learn some more.
