I used to fit these as a matter of course on my of the installations I did overseas, and understand that you can now get them to fit into a C/U if I'm not mistaken.
Mrs Pete999 has been whinging about getting one fitted, now I want to fit one for whole house protection, not sure of what to get, I was wondering if anyone has any preference as to make or type, unfortunately I have no room in my C/U to fit one so it will need to be a stand alone module, the ones I used were Furse, all differing types depending on the size on the installation, has anyone any info they could pass on to me please.

Are you sure she didn't mean Urge protection?

No Mate Mrs Pete999 has had the Menopause so no need for protection, added to which I have had a Vasectomy so can we return to the serious matter of my SPD inquiry, or shall we continue with the inane exchange of pointless innuendos?

Generally if you are trying to protect from lightning strikes then a class I would be required; in a domestic house then probably a class II+III would be fine, you are probably looking at about ÂŁ100 to cover this and just remember keep the cables short!
This may help for guidance:

I'd be going with type 2 at source then type 3 on outlets for sensitive kit.

Thanks Richard

Wylex and hager both make good spd kits to go in the CU. My preference is hager as i could previously get them cheaper than other suppliers. They are all quite pricey and can quickly add upto a couple hundred quid.
Hager ones nice and easy to put in CU and often fits other make Cu well too.
Not every manufacturer makes spds so check sizes if retro fitting.

Thanks Gavin, but as I said in my post I have no room in my C/U, hence my search foe a stand alone module

Cheap and cheerful and simple, I have no idea about the make of these normally Dehn or Furse seem popular but it is straightforward.
