Me: Hi, can I have price for a 12 way board with surge protection please.

Edmunsons: Errrm, hang on I will just check....... No we dont have one.

Me: Okay, what about a stand alone one I can use up front?

Edmunsons: We dont have any, never been asked for them.

Me: Really? Okay I will go get a part number and company for you then!

So, what chance do we have if the wholesalers have no idea about surge protection? :banghead:

My local Ed's do a long line of Hager, and Hager make some nice din-rail mount SP units to go into their CU's.....but actually ASK about them?? Oh - that's witchcraft and ye shall be burned at the stake!

just browsing old threads on surge protection as i am in the same boat as yourselves.ive got a heat pump that is blowing control fuses in bad weather as the customer is on the end of a line in the sticks.with the recent wind etc the incoming supply is prone to surges n shutdowns.
it is in a building in the garden with about a 100m sub main between the main house and the outbuilding.what i can gather is putting a surge device at the main house is pointless due to the length of the sub main.i have had the same glazed look from 2 wholesalers and no reply from another.anyone know if anyone does a fuse spur with surge protection built in like the mk twin sockets?it would bring tears to a glass eye trying to get decent info on this stuff.

Dcf,

Might be worthwhile contacting Furse, and other surge protection manufacturers/suppliers, and explaining your situation. They may well come up with a solution for you. I know that Furse are normally very good with customer enquiries... I have contacted them on more than a few occassions, and have always come up with the goods, even suggesting the use of a compeditors product, when there's wasn't available in my market place!!!

We always use furse units. On a call out today and had to bring a replacement furse unit with me. (Didn't need it, coil burnt out on mains / standby genset contactors)
