Guys,

Looking at changing a board in a new house we are hoping goes through soon

The owner has told me a couple of times they have had items blown up randomly by spikes DNO aware by sound of it but not acting all that fast on it.

Anyway I've been looking into surge protection does any one know anything about it.
I've looked around and it seems bundle of products and options available.

Ideally I would like (if it exists) a surge protection device that can be fitted straight from the cut out isolator. So everything is protected and if it blows out stick a new one in are they out there if so anyone could recommend makes or models be a huge help ?

Thanks

Not sure they said the burglar alarm and tv for destroyed then DNO turned power off and everything been ok since but for the sake of ÂŁ200 etc as needs new board anyway may as well throw one in best safe than sorry

Be worth checking the supply voltage, see if it is varying excessively (especially when any high loads switched on). Daz

you can get surge protection that fits in the CU to protect 1 or more circuits. check it out at elex in m'cr 20th june, i think. all the best lads are going ( that's me , phil d and glennspark for strarters).

if you can't go, i'll get you some info if i can. you only 5 miles from me. bull's head in davenham is a good place to exchange info

You Lush!!
I am hoping to get to elex show as well, Glenn kindly asked if i wanted to be his + 1.
But under no circumstance's am I wearing benders for him.

You don’t say what the supply is.

Is this rural or urban?
Have other houses had problems?
What did the DNO do when they switched off the supply?

There’s so much to consider before splashing out on surge diverters that may or may not solve the problem.

Go on then, how do you know for certain that the items 'blew up' due to surges?

Especially since nothing has happened since the DNO did some work on the supply?

And what's to say the two items affected didn't just die of natural causes or being cheap Chinese tat?

No idea to be honest the guy I'm buying off is not engineeringly minded.

He said they used to have loads of power cuts and then one day the two items blew up and DNO advised trx issues and will repair. Etc

But thought if changing the board anyway why not drop surge protection in for few hundred quid worth it as in the future it may come in anyway
