I was doing a ecir at the weekend and came across 8 circuits in a 3 phase db that are all 4c swa 10mm no seperate earth but in a metal board and a metal enclosure at the other end then jointed off in Pvc flexible conduit with an earth 2 of the cores are l&n and the other 2 are l&n Both on separate phases 32 amp and both feeding separate appliances I know it's like having 4 cores in metal conduit but is this allowed as I have never done it or does it need a code 3 but all circuits tested ok.
Any views.

Many thanks

Which regulation would you use, if challenged, to support the C3 code you have suggested?

I can strongly recommend you open your copy of bs7671 and read the regulation pertaining to this situation, the subject is covered pretty definitively.

It's not like metal conduit, it's a multicore cable carrying multiple circuits which is dealt with as a separate matter by the regulations.

I meant in the loose term that armouring of SWA can be used as a protective conductor, just like metal conduit can be. (543.2.1)

521.7 Two or more circuits are allowed in the same cable provided the requirements of Section 528 are met.

And after a brief glance through 528 I can't see anything that would cause an issue typically.

So please enlighten me.

Yes, under qualifications in your profile you state "All" thats a lot of quals, and you are asking questions like this.

How about instead of querying people's competence or qualifications, we just answer the bloody questions they ask?
I'm pretty sure we all come across things we're not sure about.
You have to have some information of peoples competence in order to tailor your answers, don't know about you but "what qualification do you have, and the answer is All" gets my back up. There is no shame (for the thought of a better word) in not having any experience or qualification what so ever, either laziness or lack of come to mind with answers like the one we have been given in this response to the question of quals, personally I couldn't give a Monkie's what he has or hasn't got.

Multiple circuits contained in a single cable is not an odd situation and the answer is readily available in BS7671. Yes I agree sometimes you come across a head scratcher but that is not in the list of one of them surely.
