got myself a new timber workshop. The previous workshop already had supply via SWA from house CU.

Iv got new cu for the workshop and appropriate gland kit however I'm unsure what's best practice in terms of getting the SWA into the workshop.

Is it just literally a case of drilling appropriately sized hole and pushing it through or is there a specific gland for this purpose?

I'm probably overthinking it

You could always pass the entire cable through a standard compression gland, then terminate the SWA appropriately wherever required if you want.

No hard an fast rules, just make sure it's out of any way of being damaged through environment, traffic etc

For entry through building fabric? Depends on the application, probably not for your shed though.

For terminating into an enclosure.

Google CW, BW or EW1 glands as these are the most common.
