I have some spare cable with the outside armour plus 4 cores, brown, blue, grey and black. How do I connect the armour, grey and blck to make the most effective earthing to a garage? I think its a 2.5mm core.

If your not an electrician, then i strongly suggest you don't even try terminating that SWA. The chances are you'll make a pigs ear of it. Get a local electrician to terminate your ends for you, it's not going to cost you that much, and certainly not as much as replacing that length of SWA cable!!

And if/when you take eng`s advice...be sure to be on the scene and watch what he does (carefully) so you get the gist of it.....it aint hard but theres a "method" to it.....its all about preparation (as with most things)............:smiley2:

After watching an electrician with 30 years experiece recently, I don’t think all sparks know what their doing. While watching him I was looking around for an axe for him to use! It was painfull to watch! 120mm cable and he’s trying to use side cutters for the armours. I walked away, returning later he’s struggling to get the gland nut on. I wonder why?

I honestly cant beleive that he was using side cutters for the armour. Isnt that what picers are for? lol

In all seriousness, i think a lot of sparks may well of been used to one side of the industry, ie getting lost on big jobs ect, and as such when asked if they can do something, they rely on copying others. when they are on their own, they find they are out of their depth.

thers no problem askinmg somebody with more experience for pointers sometimes, as you may find that theres a much quicker way of doing something, thats never crossed your mind.

must be a video on utube or learning lounge. i learnt by being shown by an older spark, years ago, in the days when doing something wrong earned you a clout round the head. that would now be classed as abuse with a huge compo lawsuit, but it bloody well worked !

That is the ''Only'' way to learn Tel!! By watching your betters, and your betters watching you, until they are satisfied your competent in what you are doing, be it terminating SWA, bending conduit, or anything else!!

Your not going to learn the intricacies of doing anything, by watching these types of video, even the good or better ones. In fact some of those video's can and will set you back in the learning curve, by giving duff or half right/truth information or by showing outright bad practices....

yeaqh, takes me back. seven attempts to bend a complicated section of 20mm galv. had a good boss. said OK . we use the first 6 attempts to make some short runs.

???????????????????
the bin man
telectrix if you look has contributed more than any other on this forum and everything he says is helpful and correct unlike what you are telling the post above to do which is shoddy workmanship if not dangerous think you are trying to hard to rub people up the wrong way and as a result you will find yourself banned i predict
