Hi guys,

After speaking to Elecsa and asking what would suffice for my registration assessment, i have decided to update the garage CU and run some SWA up the garden to power some weatherproof sockets and a lighting circuit in the shed.

Has anyone got any useful tips or gems of advice for SWA?

Those look just the job! However, SWA is almost half the price as SY it would appear so there are pros and cons either side of this. But all in all having looked at the garage space and looked at the garden, I think SY is going to be vastly easier, and the money spent on the cable will almost certainly be saved on labour time!

Can i order from this website Malcom?

Yes I have used these guys but in all honesty it was a while ago. Now that you have seen them I'm sure somehwere like TLC or a local wholesaler will get them .

I was just thinking here, it may pay you to contact the scheme you are hoping to join about doing the install this way, and ask them what they think. There is nothing in the Regs stopping you from using SY cable, but the last thing you want on your assement is a picky inspector saying that you shouldn't have used this method, which is why IMO I would use a more convential installation. It may pay you to use SWA or even Hi-tuf. Just a thought.

That Hi-tuf certainly strikes me as being far easier and quicker to terminate but its so expensive!! I shall call elecsa today then and discuss the matter and maybe your right SWA will be a better option. I simply trying to find the easiest way with as little ball ache as possible but sometimes you have to bite the bullet right.
