Hello all,

I am running a distribution circuit to a sectioned off part of someone's house, I'm going to be running the cable under the wooden floor and dropping down in to the room from above. I can use either 10mm SWA or 16mm T&E to achieve this but was just wondering what people think would be the easiest cable to try and pull through joists and what not?. I assume neither option is going to be huge laugh!

Thanks

I have in the past pulled both through joists, it's easy enough if you are careful to get all of the holes at the right angles and lined up perfectly. It's definately a much easier job for 2 people who work well together than one on their own.

The final choice of cable should really come down to the normal design considerations, does it require a 10mm earth at the sub board or will 6mm be right for it? Will there be any other advantage to using SWA eg to negate the use of an RCD which may otherwise be required?

You remind me of an old site manager that used to check out holes with a laser pen. He wasn't liked. Lol.

Well can you at least please explain why?

I can learn something at least.

Running an armoured through a floor in a domestic property almost impossible without serious damage to the strength of the joists, also the kinks in the cable where it is pulled about whilst feeding through would be damaging the cable, also rating factors regarding space etc as armoured calls usually do not allow for installation under domestic floors through joists,.

A 16 mm2 armoured would also be a task, the answer is to seek an alternative route.

A 16 mm2 armoured? Bollox
