Hi guys managed to come by a few lengths of swa and am going to strip it and scrap it. Was wondering if anybody has took the steel with them to the scrappies and if it was worth it or not?

Hi Dave,
I would say if your going with the copper anyway, why not just take the steel....? You might only get a few quid for it but its still a few quid rather than just dump it! An extra pint is always worth it!

As above, its not worth much but if your going anyway, with the copper!!! I have just had my son sat in the garage, stripping the copper out of some 1.5mm t & e..lol He's been at it for hours! That will teach him what working for a nowt is all about!!lol

I did think that it was either the skip or the scrappies so why not just take it. Can't say I would be stripping 1.5 right enough. Anything under 16mm is not really worth the time and effort but certainly as a lesson is invaluable!!

I find that 4mm T+E and above is worth stripping and anything from 6mm swa and above is worth it as well . As long as it is cut down into lengths of about 2-3 ft first with a chop saw . Having said that , I do not personally do the striping part of it !

When I last checked about a month ago it was around £4400 a ton , I am waiting for it to get up around £5000 ( hopefully ) a ton before waying in the bright again .
