I am looking from some advice regarding installing an SWA cable from a house to a stand alone garage some 20 metres from the house. The incoming supply to the house is PME. I understand that I will need to put in a seperate earth electrode for the garage installation. I am installing a seperate CCU in the garage.
My question is regarding the earthing in respect of the SWA.
Do I connect the SWA earthed sheath to the MET in the house CCU or do I connect the earthed SWA sheath to the garage CCU MET which will have an earth via an earthing rod buried outside the garage?
I would appreciate any advice on this as reading the regs etc has not helped me find the answer.
Many thanks

yes connect swa armouring at the supply end if you are going to use a rod at the garage end then armouring should not be connected to c/u in garage dont forget treat the garage as a tt system and use a front end 30ma RCD

Hello all, poss my first thread on HERE, I was going to ask a Similar Question , even after 20yrs in the "trade"( LOL now a days!)
With PME, as the Neutral is Earthed, and that Neutral/Earth Conductor breaks / gets damaged somewhere along the line! then you have no reliable or means of Earthing! ................BUT WHY EARTH THE SWA (example) to the TT System in the Garage/shed etc etc,

and NOT keep them separated? I've always known it to be good pratice, EARTH the Supply cable, BUT DIVORCE at the Shed/ TT side

I assume said contractor is part of a Part P scheme (NICEIC, Napit, few others..) in which case complain to them. They'll investigate (in theory)...
