Swap SON lamps for HQI's???

A client has just called to say that he wants to swap his 70W (ES) SONi lamps for something that gives a white light. Does anyone know whether you can fit certain HQI or MBFU lamps straight to the SON fitting or will he have to replace the control gear/ fitting?

It depends on the lamp some hqi,s work on some control gear some don't , just read the lamp manufacturers guidelines and you should be ok

great stuff. So just to clarify, if we can get metal halide with the igniter in the lamp, it'll strike and operate with the existing control gear? Thanks

yes M-H works with son fittings but not the other way about , if the fittings have ignitors fitted in them then normal halide lamps will do
