Hi to all (warning, long post).

Ive got a job im working on where there are six consumer units remote from the meter positions, each meter is in its own standard external meter cabinet.

The supplies are all 60amp single phase, so i have wired them in 16mm twin & earth. In the past i have used MEM 200KMF switch fuses as they take up next to no space in the cabinet, but i feel these are only really suitable for double insulated tails as there is no enclosure as such for having exposed/stripped twin & earth.

So im thinking the smallest switch fuse with an enclosure is a Wlyex 160c, which measures 175mm high, 140mm wide & 100mm deep.

Do you think i will get away with this size switch fuse in a standard meter cabinet. I have tried one for size and i rekon there is still enough room for the fuse head, meter and tails. I just dont want whoever ends up connecting the meters to refuse because of the size of the isolator.

My options as i see it are:

1) fit a MEM200KMF with the view that a meter cabinet is an enclosure so it wont matter too much if there is a bit of exposed single insulation from the stripped twin & earth, if i make it off as short as possible.

2) fit the larger Wylex switch fuse and hope that the meter people will be happy.

What do you folks rekon?

Many thanks

Scolmore make some small switch fuses which have an optional cover that goes above the switch for instances like this.

Look at page 5 of the above PDF for what I'm describing.
