Afternoon all,

First time i've posted a thread even thou I've had many hours of entertainment viewing others threads !!

Whilst looking through various threads I've often wondered ( forgive me if its me being dim ) when extending meter tails over 3 meters what's the point of the switch fuse ?

For example is it assumed that because you are extending beyond 3 meters then there is a higher probability of the cable being damaged and so the fuse is used as protection ?

What rating would be used in a domestic premises ?

As I said earlier forgive me for being dim but I've never had to extend tails !!

Thats just about it in a nutshell. Generally you would fit a fuse of lesser rating than the cutout fuse, usually 80 or 60amp, and as you rightly say it is to protect the suppliers fuse and cable.
