Hi every one,

Im new to this forum. FNG!. A simple question that I cant seem to find the answer to is can I run TnE in steel conduit? I know singles would be the best option but the customer has lots of TnE and wants to keep the cost down. I would strip out the cable but I dont have enough single earth to run the full length (30m). The VD is fine and the cable capacity is ok after being derated for the load/futureproofing. I was going to put the conduit straight on the ceiling (method B 7.2 osg), Looking on table 7.1 osg method B is not an allowed installation method for lighting.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Thanks
Lewis

I suppose you could, although there are probably better ways of tackling the situation depending on what that situation is, ie why do you need steel conduit in the first place?

Think I may have sent you a message then, im new to this forum thing. Basically because its in an outhouse loaded with rodents.

If it's for lighting, wouldn't it be on the ceiling so less likely to be affected by rodents?
T&E in conduit is unconventional and therefore probably not a recognised installation method, but it's not as if the 'electrical police' are going to launch a dawn raid to knock the place down and prosecute you for it.

How are you getting the supply to the outhouse? If it's in SWA could you just continue that? Or if it's on catenary wire could you keep everything electrical out of access to the rodents?

Yes its for lighting. The out house is connected to the main house so im going to go through the wall straight into the out house. I see what your saying about keeping it away from rodents but I don't trust them. Gone the belt and braces way.

mice get everywhere so i'd say your right to keep the wiring in conduit.

could you not strip the L+N out of the sheath and use the steel conduit as the CPC? would make it easier to install

An ex bleep I see! I see what your saying about the CPC, but not too sure if its allowed? Bit of investigating for me I think.

as long as the earth fault loop impedance is low enough then thats all that matters, which it should be as long as all the connections are tight

How big is this outhouse and what else are you putting in there? If it's just for a light could you just come through the wall at high level and straight into a light fitting?
