The T4/T5 designations don't really have a lot to do with the quality of the fitting - they are purely end cap designations referring to the diameter of the tube used.

Is it essential to use flourescent lighting? What about alternatives such as LED lighting?

Either way, I'd suggest using a quality branded fitting if you're having issues with what you have been using - there's very little difference technically between T4 and T5 fittings, and often they'll use the same gear anyway.

thanks 4 reply . i have used jcc & denmans eternal .both are iffy. been to the job today with leds .[]no, shes not happy.light levels to low ? .tricky customer .but i like a challenge .?? poss double up on the leds ?? .i have worked for these guys for 12 years plus so need to keep them happy..

Philips do a range of LED lighting for general applications.

This stuff - Daywave - is pretty appealing and we've used a bit of it.

Their core range isn't bad either.

If it has to be fluorescent these days we tend to stick to Thorn Pop Pack - little more expensive, but low energy, high efficiency, and they seem pretty reliable so far.

John, I`ve had a lot of problems with the T4 units of varying makes though a lot of eterna stuff is fairly low quality, I have found the T5 units seem to last, though i had a batch of those which died after a few months
