Boy's Whats the ruling on tails longer than 3m less than 8,Is a switch Fuse required or is it down to the suppliers requirements, I dont understand the need for a Sw/fuse as the cable is 25mm SWA

usually i would fit anything from 2m as that seems to be the common minimum between dno's and saves messing on ringing around trying to find someone capable to give you the correct answer.

just reading the post, surely if you are putting a fused isolator in line then I would assume you would down rate it, i.e, 100A mian cut out, 80A at isolator?
without looking in the books, could you not get away with a smaller csa than 25mm, reduce costs etc.

Ross.

The distributor’s cut-out fuse, or switch, if one is provided, may be used to isolate meter tails and other equipment immediately downstream, subject to the distributor’s agreement.
A condition of the distributor’s agreement is often a restriction on the length of the meter tails, perhaps to as little as one or two metres.
This means that, where the main distribution board or switchboard is too far from the electricity supply meter to be supplied by the maximum allowed length of tails, an additional linked switch or linked circuit-breaker has to be provided, to act as the main switch for the installation.
Like any main switch, the additional switch or circuit-breaker should be located as near as practicable to the origin of the installation (the meter) as required by Regulation 537.1.4.

Note, however, that distributors generally do not permit consumer’s equipment such as a main switch to be located on their meter board or within their meter cabinet.

Indeed, it is a question for your DNO as they do vary between them.

SSE or as they are now know as Southern Electric (again) will only gurantee fault protection on the first three meters (internal) and 4 meters external, after which a switchfuse must be installed.
