Some one I know asked me to change there old c/u to a new 12way c/u and pull in new bonding. I quoted them £290 cuz I know them and to be fair I'm a bit quite next week:eek:. And they told me they have been quoted £150 already:eek:. So I told them to call me when it goes wrong:rolleyes:.

So much for trying to help someone out:mad:

add a 100 for being second choice

This kind of thing must really irritate the hell out of you guys, a couple of quid difference then sure but to be that far out and doing mates rates then that is ridiculous!

I feel for those of you that have to face this embarrassment:frown

lets break this down
cheep cu 50quid at least
10mm for bonding 5quid (maybe hes got some)
misc clamps etc tails £10
change cu 3hrs
test cu and paperwork 4hrs
do bonding 2hrs

so £65 for gear
£85 labour
less than £10 per hour

:mad:how do people do it
:confused:and why

Hi Shagg working for company changing CUs in NHS Clinics, most are TP+N with 10 circuits on average some sinlge at £80 day all weekend work, sometimes i change two a day with the testing! So i asked for an extra twenty quid and was told theres plenty of people willing to do the job if i wasnt happy with the rate! Iam still lookin

Was that £150 for cash?
If it was, it was still pretty cheap, but if we assume that it was a 'foreigner/cobble' etc, then they may have got all the kit FOC. If its easy, you could do a board in 2 hours, the bonding could be a pig, or it could be 5 metres away from the CU. Just do a loop test on a couple of circuits (or none at all!), and you could easily be finished in a morning. Not saying its right, just how it could be, especially if its someone with no work.

Saying all that, if its a 'proper' job for £150, then its obviously very cheap.
Cant win em all I guess:)

Like already mentioned, whoever's doing the swap, will be doing the swap only. No testing, no cert and probably no notification.
RCD's do all the testing thats required anyway, don't they!!!

And on and on the story goes ! this is what were worth to the people who make the rules ! gas safe is worth it but in our field were getting stiched up but as long as we pay the randsom the people who run the schemes dont give a dam its been said before time and time again untill we ALL stick together and question the government/building controll/ scheme opperators we WONT get anywhere ! plain simple ! we need to get the gas safe way or no way ! we pay all this money they need to make it worth our hard earnt cash ! its a joke what we put up with and STILL pay the randsom ! enough is enough ! we are the ones doing things by the book and need recognition ! as on family guy thats what grinds my gears !

kung - 100% agree

shagg - still part time industrial maintenance at the mo so moving into getting registered in the new year but i did look at a light commercial workshop on friday, few chippies potters and artists, for a full rewire etc which would be a great little job to do. wont hold my breath though

Hi guys.
whilst your on the topic, thought id share this with you
Freind of mine buys a house (3 bed semi), 6 weeks after he moves in, he comes up to me and says I hope you dont mind but a friend of mine offered to rewire it £500 cash if I bought the materials, is that a good price? I laughed and said that was cheap as chips, he seemed happy.
3 weeks later I get a text asking to price for some work at his house that this other spark hadnt completed round his huse before dissapearing, he wants garage wiring with 4 way board, 2 sockets and a flurecent with switch, also 3 outside lights (pir floods) with switches for each, quoted him £150 cash plus materials, was there 10 hours on the sat as the 'friend' who rewired the house had done some funky stuff with the lighting, connected onto what should have been the main on the ceiling rose only to find out when im testing the lights that it was a swtchwire not a main, and the hall switch turns the celing rose completely dead, including what should be the main in the loop. -(discovered this at 430pm) !"!!!! then had to rewire to anther point to pick up main, floorbrads up etc, total pain in my ---, comes to paying, said he'd pay me the next day,I ring and he wants me to run in his bonding for nothing!!!, told him it would cost, he then starts quibbling the £150 id charged for the fullday. some people honestly!!!!! got the 150 in end, but he has been ****ty with me ever since like ive ripped him off, this is why you should NEVER work for friends as they expect the earth and take the ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Good thinking - the other side of that is my garage and also where the gas comes in so probably quite a tidy solution if it comes to it!
