I would say that if you have to ask this question, you're not ready to be working without supervision .

What qualifications have you got? They cover this in college, year two I think.

Yeah man. If you do not know to do dead test first then that is quite a major thing not to know.

Stay safe. Get someone to shadow you.

Can't believe you have asked that question, as an Electrician you should know the sequence already.

I've been a electrical engineer for last 4/5 years so was just asking. Last time I did testing I could do it blindfolded upside down. All your negativity is helping no one. This is ment to be a site to help people not put them down.

Don't believe I was being negative mate, just stating that as you have described yourself in your profile as an Electrician you should know the sequence of tests, they are described in the BS767, the onsite guide and guidance note, 3 publications any self respecting Electrician should have in their possession.

No one here is being negative, but you are clearly out of practice.

I used to BMX at a semi professional level (not that that's a lot to shout about). I haven't done so for about five years though. Give me a BMX now and I'm certain I would be very rusty. The first thing I would do if I wanted to get back into it properly would be to get down the local skate park and surround myself with like minded people taking tips and pointers where I can. If I didn't do so, the likelyhood of me getting ahead of myself, picking up bad habits and getting severely hurt would be high.

If you want to get in to/back in to the electrical industry, questions on a forum will only get you so far. You need supervision. It isn't disparaging to state that my year two apprentice would be able to answer this question and would more than likely be able to write it down word for word as displayed in GN3.

Make a few calls, see if you can help out, get back in to the rhythm of things. Also, get yourself immersed in the regs and GN3.

Finally, quit with the "I used to be an engineer" thing. Electrician and Engineer are two completely different job titles. One of my best pals is an electrical engineer and he wouldn't have the first clue how to wire a plug. Then again, I wouldn't know how to design and build a computer chip from scratch.

Contrary to what you might think, many of us here are more than happy to help, but you have to put in what you get out. Take things one step at a time as we certainly won't be drip feeding you instructions on how to do your job if we think you're in over your head. Get rid of the chip on your shoulder and get involved.

It would definitely be worth purchasing a copy of Guidance Note 3.
