hi. does anyone know if you require to be nic or select registered to be able to give a test cert to building control after the completion of a new intallation? or would one of the 'shop' bought ones suffice ie. kew technic certs. any advive appreciated.

Select and NIC are recognised here as being able to garentee a standard. However I am on the understanding a fully trained electrician can issue a test certificate and would take full resposibility for desighn,Installation and test.

thanks mate.i used to do the testing for a nic and select reg company.
but now in a role with a main contractor.but now wanting to out on my own
and taking on jobs so was wondering where i stand until i get registered
and build up some work contacts.

hi,the letter of the law states you have to be a competant person so theoretically anyone can test even these people who sit a 2week course.sad thing is i have been registered now for 6years with a recognised body but the council just aren't monitoring it as i have only ever been asked 3times and all they have asked for is an test cert and not if i'm registered with anyone.if i was you i wouldn't jump into registering yourself with anyone untill you get pulled but i would always stay ahead with your amendments ie your 2382 thats if you aren't up to scratch with the 17th edition then you can always say you are a competant person.again thats just in case you are ever asked by the council otherwise you end up spending ÂŁ400 a year and have to take a day off work to show somebody your work. What a waste of time and money!

thanks damo. got my 17th edition booked.
i know what your saying about being registered but still going to
as hopefully a couple of contacts will get me work in both private and
the public sectors.
