hi guys
coming to the end of my 2330 level 3 and am looking to what is open for me was
looking for someone to answer afew questions for me.

wondering if i was to go alone without having to register with a body like napit or niceic, or have any building control inspect my work what can i do in domestic ?
will i have to issue certs for work that isnt notifable?

also is it a requirement to have pli before doing any work on other peoples houses even if its just minor?

PLI is a must. No you don't have to be part of a scheme (but its cheaper if all you do is domestic). Have a look at the sticky thread on part p. Loads of great info on there and you can see what you need to cert and what you need to notify. If you start out by yourself good luck to you, it won't be easy but hats off to you for giving it a go.

We seem to get threads and posts every now and again concerning notifiable or non-notifiable jobs and certification. They all seem to point towards not understanding what is required.

It seems there maybe confusion in that becasue a job is the non-notifiable kind do you need to certificate it. In reality Part P does not govern what type of work requires what type of certificate, or if indeed any is required, that is purely the remit of the BS 7671-2008.

If your extending a lighting circuit in a hallway of a domestic house, then this is not notifiable, but you still need to issue the customer with a MEIWC for that work, the only thing is you have no need to register it with a Part P scheme, which IMO is wrong on the schemes part, as by registering the minor non-notifiable work, would still give it some credence in a case of dispute, but that is another matter.

By all means take heed of Part P concerning domestic work , but on certification appendix 6 on pg 331 of the BS 7671-2008 will be your guide.
