Test equip

AP Electrical

Hi all,

Just finishing my 2330 l3 and looking to start on my nvq, In preparation for my career change i've started collecting some new bits and bobs - im quite lucky in the fact I can sell some of my other tools to finance this.

So far I've picked up a fluke 1653 - a good buy
socket tester fluke sm300 ,volt stick 2ac, t100 voltage indicator and cali card.

What other test equip would you not be without clamp meter, earth spike tester etc....

When I do eventually get round to setting up proper I'd think it would be mostly domestic with a splash of commercial work.

Thanks in Advance

Wouldn't bother with an earth spike tester if you're just doing domestic with a bit of commercial. Haven't used one in nearly 9 years in the trade and only ever saw one in college. The loop meter is more then adequate for checking earth stakes. Clamp meters are very useful in my opinion, if you're doing any work with motors one with an inrush/max reading is handy.

The only other gear i've got which you haven't mentioned is a set of lamp holder adapters for your test meter. Kewtech do a set and they're great for doing periodic inspections as it gives a good, quick indication whether or not a class 1 fitting has an adequate earth without dismantling it or wedging probes in the business end. I'm tempted by an R2 extension reel too but a 25m 13A extension lead with a socket adapter and an extra probe works fairly well for those occasions when you don't want to completely dismantle a consumer unit to carry out a R1+R2 test or confirming bonding continuity.

Thanks for the answers guy both very similar, forgot to mention i'd picked up the kewtech lightmate kit as well, I going to have a look at clamp meters now and I'll stick a wander lead in my wishlist.
thanks again for taking the time to answer.
