Hi
I am knocking up a test rig for practice:)

The general set up is fine - but obviously limited in realism by short cable runs.

I would like to include resistors to simulate "real world" cable runs so that realistic readings are given on tests.

I really don't know much about resistors though:confused:

1. What type of resistor do I need to get to be able to handle 230volts?
2. Is it possible to get resistors that can handle 230 volts - below 1ohm?

I suppose I could use several resistors in parallel to get to readings down to reasonable levels?

Thanks in advance for your help

Low value resistors that you would use to imitate loop resistances ( r1 and r2 ) are only required to handle a few volts so almost any type would do. Similarly the high value ( Megohm ranges ) need not handle large currents so again any type will do the job. Maplins as stated above do a good range and you just need to get a handfull 0f 1 ohm and a handfull of 1 meg ohm that way by series and parallel connections you can simulate a whole range of resistance values.

Have you looked into using variable resistors, this will give you a bit of flexability for adjusting and also alow you to put high and low resistance fault readings into your circuits.
