Hi Guys here my dilemma

Im new to testing and learnt on an old megger 1551. I new what settings did what and how to test with it. Ive had ten weeks of due to breaking my collarbone and upon arrival back my meggers had an upgrade (company's decision not mine). Here is where the problem lies, its a meggger 1710 and i have to test with it tomorrow but these new settings are a bit confusing. im just confused with the loop section on it. There 2 loop setting and im unsure what to use for what application.

L-PE- has 3 subcategories
2HI- is this for ze and pfc/pssc results?
2LO- What on earth is 2lo and what does it do?
3LO- is this the no trip setting for Zs results where circuit have rcd/rcbo

L-L L-N
2HI- why do you need another 2hi setting?

To you it may seem as basic knowledge but testings still pretty new to me. Any advice would be welcomed.

thanks

pretty self-explanatory. 2HI is 2 lead high current, 2LO is 2 lead no trip, 3LO is 3 lead no trip, not to sure about the rest as my tester is steam powered.

I've perused the user manual and all seems straight forward which is a little worrying as to why you cannot follow it... either way there's a demo vid on the link for a guide to its use, it came up within the top 5 search results so struggling to see why you couldn't resource this yourself before asking the question.

I'm soooo sorry dark wood for wasting your valuable time. Please accept my utter apologies. And please don't worry on my account! Perhaps I'm lazy or I just wanted some reassurance who knows hey

Sarcasm aside, A professional Electrican was once respected and highly admired for their intellect, resourcefulness and professional attitude, what we have now in the industry is clearly far from that judging by the questions posted by many on here, rather than ask work colleagues, do an internet search it seems some are becomming heavily realible to get them through the day by using forums and your thread with all respect gives this impression, don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the question in itself but it just seems you could not be bothered to look into yourself and rather just be told. You remind me of a few of my apprentices where they ask me a question and I just said 'what do the insstructions say?'.... you can guess the answer - 'not read them'!... none of them lasted ...

Now Im not knocking your Intellect or professional attitude and ability to do your job but your resourcefulness is lacking ... this time its just a general how to do this question but next time how will you resolve a problem without the internet - ???
There's nothing wrong with technology and benefits all but it aint half created a lazy generation of professionals.

What seems to be your issue if im to be honest is your either too scared to ask your overviewers either because you don't want to look silly or otherwise you have no-one to ask, working under a competent experienced electrician for a few yrs should be anyones first steps in the industry as this gives you the practical guidance required to get a good start and to learn the profession.

Sorry if I came across a bit harsh but you'll get a lot worse in the real world and I just don't like lazy attitudes... I answer many questions without any personal comments but some types of question just seem like the poster hasn't even tried.

I'd prefer to simply ask rather than make a mistake which involved the safety of the electrical installation, I suppose I'm not too proud to ask for advice rather than guess and mess up. I sadly don't have any peers to ask this question too.

But how do you know you have been given the correct information by someone on the internet?

The MI and the manufacturer itself should be your port of call as the any info you have been given will be correct or at least be their problem if you do some damage to property or persons using the information you have been given.

Darkwood raises a good point, electricians used to be renowned for their puzzle solving skills and now it seems half of them can't even switch the bloody tester on and use it!
