Hi all, im currently training as an electrician and have completed my 17th edition and done 3 years at college doing my 2330/2/3. In my current work place i am under taking the electrical work but before anything is livened up we have another collegue who tests it all to make sures its safe and to the current regulations.

I have a basic understanding of inspection and testing through my college course but its never enough, and there isnt always someone on site to ask all my many question. Id like to eventually join the niceic domestic installer scheme but i dont feel 100% confident in my testing ability so i dont wont to get an niceic rep out and fall at the first hurddle.

Does anybody no any short courses focusing just on testing and inspection domestically?

One final point to prove i need to go on a course, during an insulation resistance test if the light bulbs are left in will it effect the result?

Kind regards Chris

If you leave the light bulbs in on a 500V test your lamps (light Bulbs) will not work again if you cant remove fittings such as lamps you can do a 250v test.

You can test with L/N shorted and E on 250v this way if you cannot remove things such as lamps SELV fittings you can still do the test sure widdler has a better explaination of this test along with the type of notification I think Type 2 but he is the best to confirm this.

Hi All!
I'm also new to the game and want to build up as much experience or atleast enough before I call the NICEIC down. I'm quite confused on the procedures when signing up with a scheme. i.e what kind of work are they looking for to assess, how many jobs, can it be work carried out at home, can i contact LABC after I have already completed or halfway through a job, do I do the testing infront of the LABC or do they have there own people to do the testing and issue the certificate for myself and the client, should I have public liability insurance before the NICEIC come for the assessment, I have so many questions just cant remember them all now! :)

Also I apologise in advance, not trying to steal your thread schoe.

Many Thanks for all

Ali
