Hi Chaps

I am going to see a customer on Thursday with regards to a downlighter in his bathroom tripping the breaker, I suspect the downlighter isn't suitable for a bathroom which has corroded the terminals but will investigate further on thursday.

My question is, if i have to replace the downlighters and they are on a circuit with other lighting then where would I test? Would I test at the downlighter or would I still test at the furthest point on the circuit? and if I have to test at the downlighter, how would I go about it? I've never tested ELV before.

Many Thanks
Mark

Before doing any testing I would advise checking your customers handy work
first, it might save you a lot of time ;)

Need more info mate. It could be the fitting, but would depend on if it is Mains or Low voltage. Could be the transformer at fault.

Do a visual first, check fo defective wiring, transformers, workmanship,
check to see if the transformers have been connected correctly, could be a loose cable, check all joint boxes etc, if mains voltage just remove all lamps from the circuit & test.

If low voltage, you'll need to disconnect the transformers for continuity testing, just use some connector block & "link out" live & live together, same with neutral & same with earth,( all lamps out) & test at the futhest point, you can insulation resistance test with the transformers connected but this defeats the object as the fault might be elswhere, so just diconnect them before carrying out your testing.
