I have my second Periodic test next week on a small business centre but am looking for a little advice. I took a look around it last week but noticed that light were all inset into the ceiling and very difficult to access. My first question is as the next furthest point for me then would be the light switch - would it be acceptable to take all the necessary reading from there?

My Second question is regarding the Alarm, Servers, Boiler and Fire Alarm, do I have to arrange for companies to come in and disconnect them? Or would I be expected to do that ?

Thanks

Andy

Most of the above have battery back up, a quick talk with the duty holder would gain acess to the said equipment or at least most of it.

Use the "agreed limitations including the reason, if any, on the inspecting and testing" box. However use a common sence approach when doing so.. What tester u using and is there an RCD on this circuit? Just I'd assume no nutural at switch

Depends on what you agreed with the customer before beginning work. I always quote for 20% of light fittings to be covered during an EICR ; 5 light fittings on one circuit, I test at one fitting at the extremity of the circuit and I state this in my agreed Limitations. Use your agreed limitations wisely.

Alarms - Always ask are they on auto dial during a fault so therefore they can notify the relevant persons.

Servers - Same again, usually these can be brought down in house or remotely. Most IT firms that bring them down remotely require 14days notice etc.

If this is your first EICR I would recommend getting in an inspection and testing engineer who does this regularly just to oversee you. Not saying you are not fit for the job, but pobodies nerfect! :)

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
