Hi guys (and gals), this is my first time on the forum, I am hoping one of you can put me straight.
I have been an electrician since I left school in 1975, I am on the NICEIC list as a domestic installer.

I have just finished some new circuits in a detached garage that has been converted for office use. The supply to the garage is from the house consumer unit via a 40amp mcb, rcd protected. The supply cable is a 10mm swa with a separate 10mm earth conductor.

There is a 4 way cu in the garage with 100 amp isolator and I have installed a new ring main and a new lighting circuit to this board.

My question is, when I do my testing and certification, do I have to do a complete test on the house electrics or just the garage cu with my new circuits? I am assuming that I would need to do my Ze and pfc tests on the house board in any case.

I think I have to test the whole house for the certificate, but I just wanted to check, as it's a lot of work.

Any advice would be great ta.

If i was you I would do away with the RCD protection on the sub and place it in the garage cu. You need only certify the works done by yourself including the sub main circuit and of course Ze, PFC, bonding etc.

I guess someone else must have done your testing for all those years?? Why would you want to test the whole house?? As already said, just test your new works and the sub circuit supplying, then fill out your EIC and notify BC via your scheme provider......

Thanks Sintra, sadly yours was the only reply worth reading.
This is my first time on this site and probably my last, I don't understand why anybody would take the time to reply to a question and then not offer any useful advice, only abuse.

I guess these forums are populated by guys who consider themselves 'superior beings' and get off on cheap shots. I have a word for people like that.

So come on then, you are a registered NICEIC installer, a spark for 39 years and you ask this question??

And you wonder why you go the response you got??

Hang around a few days and experience the onslaught of muppet questions!

I did answer your question. You did not answer mine. Who has done your testing for the last 40 years?
