hi everyone,
when ir testing a selv lighting circuit if you cant get to the transformers to disconnect the transformers do you test at 250v and test between line&neutral connected together and test between them and earth is that correct

I would say that if you are testing the primary side of the transformer then you are testing a low voltage instalation, test as you say, but test at 500v.

thanks for reply if i test at 500v this wont damage the transformers will it because of connecting live neutral together do i still have to remove all lamps or can you leave them in place

No you will not damage any lamps or the transformers. You are just putting a test voltage between the live conductors and the earth.

cheers andy thanks for that its for my brother he had it done a while ago but most of house on old wylex fuse board and new kitchen extension sockets and kitchen lights on new but will have to check sockets might be half on original side of kitchen and half on new 12 way split c.c.u.he wants me to transfer all to new c.c.u and tidy it all up if the guy that did it is qualified hes rough as spaghetti jct. he will still have to notify building control wont he as its work on a c.c.u, but before i do any of it i am going to test all old existing circuits to check for faults and stuff looks like the existing water bond is only 6mm and to me it looks like theres damage either been burning or insulation damaged the guy who wired extension should have made that good shouldnt he so going to test it all and upgrade bonding first as im not adding a ccu or installing a new one do i still have notify for transferring all final circuits and getting rid of wylex and hes had all new fitted wardrobes in all bedrooms told him he should have had all house rewired before doing it all up cheers for response so i will only have to test at 250v when testing a selv circuit on secondary side or when testing circuits what have sensitive equipment ie alarms and equipment i cant disconnect or should i always test with line/neutral connected together and test live to earth

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
