just want to know what everyone els thinks 5 year old comercial building got origonal test results for comparison 32dbs with about 12 circuits in each.

now they were quoted to do 100% of the inspection and testing then they asked me i said i would test about 4 circuits on each db and compare results , if they were alot different i would do more testing till i was happy.

what do you think?

i done a 16 year old building with no results and never been tested so i just said that was to be 100% done.

but a new building i dont think this needs to be done even 10% to compare results but inspection would be 50% done any way

Ultimately, the person ordering the work gets as much testing as they are willing to pay for. the trouble with testing a percentage of the installation is that you never get a snapshot of the condition of the complete installation at any one time. It's a bit like taking your car for an MOT, having them pump the brakes and saying from what they can tell by pumping the brakes the car seems ok. However, due to the nature of some installations, it can only be done in stages or by infra red. As long as you note the limitations of the testing, you've covered yourself and the extent is then up to them

If the designer of the original EIC has recommended that the installation be tested after 5 years then it should be.

The PIR can be undertaken in stages on a rolling maintenance plan.

Year 1, 20% test of installation and then a further 20% yearly.

This system means that the complete installation is tested every 5 years but means the cost of testing is spread out.

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
